Hey all, I need to dye some wool yarn with woad. But, looking at the instructions, I felt a bit daunted. Anybody in the LA area got a vat going? Want to get one going? We could set one up here at the LA EcoVillage and keep it going indefinitely.

Re: Woad vat?
Sun, March 25, 2007 - 3:30 PMHave you seen the woad page?: <my.net-link.net/2E/EB/rowa...e.html#Top> (If this doesn't work google on 'woad page'). This page mentions Buchanan's Dyer's Garden for woad info.
Also, A Dyer's Manual (2nd ed, 2003) by Jill Goodwin devotes about 11 pages to woad. I just got my copy from amazon.uk yesterday so I haven't gotten to far into it yet. I could be wrong here, but it seems that woad was used more in Britain then anywhere else and it's usually books by British authors that cover the subject.

Re: Woad vat?
Sun, March 25, 2007 - 11:05 PMRowan has a cool site. There's quite a number of other good woad sites on the net as well with great info.
I'm trying to find someone to make an actual vat with or the actual woad cake so I make period Scottish clan tartans.
